Cape Coast, Elmina & the heart of Ghana's Central Region.

Off the ward, the coast opens up — the canopy walkway of Kakum, the everyday rhythm of markets and shoreline, and the memorial sites of Cape Coast and Elmina. We visit the forts and dungeons of the transatlantic slave trade with the gravity they deserve: as places of memory and conscience, never as photo stops.

A site of memory

Cape Coast Castle

A site of the transatlantic slave trade and a place of remembrance for the African diaspora. We visit soberly and with respect — to learn and to remember, never as an attraction.

Guided with historical context; quiet, unhurried, and without cameras where it would be wrong to use them.

A place of remembrance

Elmina Castle

Among the oldest European structures in sub-Saharan Africa and a place of conscience. Like Cape Coast, it is approached as a site of history and gravity, not a stop on a tour.

We acknowledge the history plainly and make space for reflection.

The canopy walkway

Rainforest at treetop height on a series of suspended bridges — a short drive inland from the coast, and a genuine break between rotations.

Busua & the shoreline

Long beaches and easy weekends — Busua to the west, the markets and music of town, and the slow rhythm of the coast around Cape Coast and Elmina.

Everyday Ghana

A country that teaches as much as any ward round.

Ghana has a long connection with Germany, English is the official language, and it is widely regarded as one of the safest countries in Africa. The landscapes shift from coast to rainforest to savanna, and getting around is part of the experience — the shared TroTro minibuses link Cape Coast to Accra, Kumasi and Busua.

Accra · by TroTro

Makola market & the capital

Ghana's seat of government and its busiest crossroads. The Makola market in Accra is a city in itself — stalls, colour and trade, and a window onto everyday Ghanaian life.

Getting around

TroTro to Kumasi & beyond

Cape Coast connects by shared minibus to Accra, Kumasi and Busua. In town, a tricycle provided by the program covers your day-to-day errands and the short hops between the hospitals and home.

Where you'll stay

A home base on the coast, arranged before you arrive.

You stay in an apartment on the grounds of the GF Brafoyaw Medical Center — a shared living room, kitchen and dining area, seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms, within reach of the hospitals and the town. You land knowing exactly where you're going, with the team there to meet you off the airport transfer from Accra.

Accommodation is €100 per person per week. Living costs on the coast are low, and there are no organization fees.
